Each day I’m seeing more students return to campus. On Monday, it was the graduate students. By Tuesday, there was a sharp uptick of undergraduates. The Nebraska Union is again bustling at lunchtime and the elevators in Oldfather are seeing traffic pick up.
For me, the start of the new school year is old hat. But for many of these students, it’s a totally new experience and seeing that in their eyes is energizing for me.
UNL is rolling out the red carpet (yes I intended that) to welcome our students back. I encourage students in Arts and Sciences to take advantage of this great opportunity for some fun and to learn more about what we offer. Look for the College’s table at the Welcome Festival on Sunday. With the help of our student ambassadors and one of our many talented advisers, we’ll be giving out information about majors, pre-health and pre-law programs and the Advising Center. I hear there will be candy and Academic Grind coupons, too.
Whether you’re a student, faculty or staff member, an alumnus or friend of the College, don’t forget to follow us on Twitter (@UNLArtsSciences) and me, too (@dmanderscheid). And if you haven’t done so already, check out our website, http://ascweb.unl.edu.
Best of luck to everyone for a successful new year and finding opportunities to make an impact. Make it a B1G year.
